Recently I came across this article in The Conversation, an online academic journal, “Earth has stayed habitable for billions of years – exactly how lucky did we get?” by Toby Tyrrell, Professor of Earth System Science, University of Southampton.

His video on YouTube goes along with the article “Life On Earth, Are We Here By Chance?”

The author, who is a secular scientist, is explaining that he ran thousands of simulations trying to establish if other planets in our galaxy would be able to sustain human life — and found that none could for any viable length of time.

He states, “On nearly every occasion in the simulation when a planet remained habitable for 3 billion years, it was partly down to luck. At the same time, luck by itself was shown to be insufficient.”

He makes it plain that if a person was to believe that  evolution “produced” our planet, and us, luck had to be involved, but even luck was not enough.

He later writes, “By implication, Earth must therefore possess some climate-stabilising feedbacks but at the same time good fortune (author’s emphasis not mine) must also have been involved in it staying habitable.”

The author scientifically proved that our existence is impossible without either trusting in billions upon billions of chance and random lucky accidents, or God’s intentional design.

If there is no intelligent design, then everything around us is random. So not only did all of these lucky chance accidents have to happen, they had to happen in the correct sequence, in the correct environment, at the correct times.

Exactly how lucky did we get?

From my perspective, we are not lucky, we are blessed to have been created by our Heavenly Father who designed all that is in us and around us at just the right times, in the exact right sequence, in the perfect environment.

Scientific discoveries such as this show the outrageous leap of faith that is required to have faith in chance evolution instead of our God who loves us like a father.
