Free colon cancer screening, education event offered at Sangertown

NEW HARTFORD — In recognition of Colon Cancer Awareness Month, Bassett Healthcare Network and the Cancer Services Program of the Central Region are sponsoring a free colon cancer screening event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Sangertown Square, 8555 Seneca Turnpike, New Hartford.

This education and screening event includes:

• Free take-home colon cancer screening kits.

• Free blood pressure clinic.

• A tour of a giant inflatable colon.

• Q&A with Dr. Carlton J. Rule, vice president of medical affairs at Bassett Medical Center and Dr. Carmine Catalano, chief of digestive diseases.

Other interactive features and education will also be available from the Wilmot Cancer Center - University of Rochester Medical Center, Oneida County Cooperative Extension, Oneida County Public Health, Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency, Mohawk Valley Health Systems, Working Solutions and Oneida County Pride. 

The take-home screening kits are available for eligible individuals with or without insurance.
