Approval of football and indoor track and field athletics for this school year amid COVID-19, plus granting tenure for a school counselor, are among items to be considered by the Board of Education tonight.
The board meets at 6 p.m. today for department reports including facilities and people operations, followed by its regular meeting agenda.
The meeting is not open for attendance by the public because of COVID-19 considerations. But the public can access it through a virtual Zoom format using a link at https://moric-org.zoom.us/j/92162690018 online. On the agenda:
• A proposed resolution to approve athletics calls for board approval of football and indoor track and field for the current 2020-21 school year.
The interscholastic football season, normally played in the fall, was pushed back by the Section III Athletic Council to a season that would begin in March due to considerations relating to the pandemic. Indoor track and field, usually part of the winter sports season, also was revised.
The school board earlier this month approved a resolution for high-risk athletics/activities for the winter season amid the pandemic including
“boys and girls basketball; girls volleyball;
boys and girls ice hockey: wrestling; cheer; extra-curricular musical activities; Winterguard color guard program. That action was part of meeting county guidelines to get approval for the athletics programs.
• A proposed resolution to grant tenure lists Tina Campos, school counselor in ECP (Early Childhood Program), with an effective date of March 16.
Tenure, typically considered after a probationary period, guarantees due process in the event that dismissal charges are faced. It also is considered in future assignments.
