Floyd Community Instrumental Ensemble receives Stewart Shops grant

FLOYD — Christmas came early to the Floyd Community Instrumental Ensemble in 2022 in the form a $1,000 grant from Stewart’s Shops Inc.

The concert band, founded in 1984, regularly performs in town and village parks and nursing homes each summer. Since its inception, it has performed approximatively 400 summer concerts throughout the western Mohawk Valley and beyond.

Stewart’s Shops are committed to giving back to its communities, the announcement said, adding that it awards program provides gift certificates or monetary support based on the applicant group needs. Applicants must be a charitable non-profit, school or municipality.

Membership in the Floyd Community Instrumental Ensemble is open to adult and school musicians. Current openings include low brass and woodwind musicians. Rehearsals are held over the winter beginning late February at the Floyd United Methodist Church, on Route 365.
