First Presbyterian Church suspends in-person services

The First Presbyterian Church of Rome will temporarily suspend its in-person Sunday Worship and holiday services.

After receiving a statement from County Executive Anthony Picente, the Utica Presbytery urged its churches to cease indoor worship until the Covid-19 cases in our region begin to decline. Church groups and outreach programs such as the Mission Closet, the Crafty Ladies and the Something Special Mission Boutique have decided to postpone their upcoming events as well. Outside groups using the building such as AA and NA will meet at their discretion observing CDC safety protocols.

The church invites the community to visit their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/RomeFirstPresbyterian, each Sunday morning at 10 a.m. for live-stream worship. Sunday, Dec. 20, features a Reader’s Theater Christmas Pageant “A Corona Christmas Carol”; written by Helen Adsit and directed by Gail Tucker. In addition, First Presbyterian will hold a virtual Christmas Candlelight Service on Dec. 20 at 4 p.m. The Candlelight service features a mix of music and scripture for the holiday season. Their Christmas Eve Service will be broadcast on Dec. 24 at 8 p.m.
