A father and daughter were both taken into custody after struggling with police officers at the Madison Plaza Apartments Monday night, according to law enforcement officials.
Police said Richard K. Yelton, 35, a resident of the apartment complex, got into a fight with his girlfriend at about 10:25 p.m. Monday. Police said Yelton choked the woman, then pinned her onto a bed and continued choking her. Other families intervened and pulled him off.
When officers arrived and hand-cuffed Yelton, police said he became aggressive and struggled with the officers as they tried to take him away. Police said Yelton’s 18-year-old daughter, Brianna Yelton, tried to interfere in the arrest and tried to slap one of the officers away from her father. She was also taken into custody.
Richard Yelton is charged with second-degree imprisonment, criminal obstruction of breathing, second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a child, authorities said. Brianna Yelton is charged with second-degree harassment and second-degree obstruction of a governmental administration, police stated. Both are scheduled to appear in City Court.
