Family displaced in fire on Utica's south side
UTICA — A Utica family has been displaced from their Ridge Road home on the south side of the city following a fire very early Tuesday morning, according to officials at the Utica Fire Department.
Fire officials said the flames started at the back of the residence on the first floor and spread to the rest of the home at 103 Ridge Road.
Officials said all occupants managed to escape the residence without injury before the fire department arrived.
The alarm was raised at 2:40 a.m.
Ridge Road is located off Higby Road, on the east side of Route 8, near the border with the Town of New Hartford.
Heavy smoke was visible on arrival on the first floor, authorities said.
Crews trained two hose lines to knock down the fire in the roof over the first floor, while other firefighters went inside to search the building.
The fire was contained to three rooms on the first floor and the roof and ceiling directly above those rooms, authorities said. No one was injured.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials said.
