‘Elf’ hits the big screen with re-release

Cinema Capitol (230 W. Dominick Street) will present several show times of the 2003 holiday favorite “Elf.” The movie is being re-released in theaters for this Christmas season.

“Elf” follows the story of Buddy (Will Ferrell), a man who was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa’s elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. As it happens, this is Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a cynical businessman. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy. Also starring in the movie are Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen, Daniel Tay, Bob Newhart, and Ed Asner.

“Elf” will play on Friday and Saturday at 4 and 7 p.m., Sunday at 1 and 4 p.m., and Monday at 7 p.m. There will be no captioned show times for this movie.

All patrons are required to wear masks for the duration of the movie, unless eating and/or drinking. Parties will be socially-distanced at least 6 feet apart.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at www.romecapitol.com. Tickets are $8; $7 for students and military, and $6 for Capitol “Friends.”

“Elf” runs 97 minutes and is rated PG.
