Drugs seized in New York Mills traffic stop
NEW YORK MILLS — A 22-year-old man has been charged with possessing narcotics during a traffic stop in New York Mills on Friday, according to the New York Mills Police Department.
Police said Meliq A. Simmonds, of Whitesboro, was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over in the village on Friday. Police said Simmonds was acting suspiciously in the vehicle, in his attempts to hide something.
Simmonds and the other occupants were asked to get out of the vehicle, and police said they found multiple plastic containers on Simmonds that contained controlled substances.
Simmonds is charged with two counts each of seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance outside its original container, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in New York Mils Court.
Additional drugs discovered with Simmonds have been sent away for testing, authorities noted. Additional charges are pending.
