Drug possession charged as pickup crashes into tractor-trailer in Madison County
SMITHFIELD — A 58-year-old man has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs after his pickup truck crashed into a tractor-trailer in Madison County early Monday morning, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies said Timothy Stevens, of Lincoln, was southbound on Swamp Road around 8 a.m. Monday when his 2012 GMC Sierra crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a northbound 2020 Mack truck, driven by Lyn Farrow, 23, of Earlville. The crash occurred just north of Fearon Road in Smithfield.
Stevens suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at University Hospital in Syracuse, authorities said. Stevens was found to be operating under the influence of drugs and was found with a quantity of drugs, deputies said.
Stevens is charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, unlicensed operator, failure to keep right, uninspected vehicle and unreasonable speed, authorities stated. Stevens was released on an appearance ticket for Smithfield Town Court for Feb. 28.
Farrow was not injured in the crash.
