Driver rescued after SUV crashes into Sauquoit Creek

WILLOWVALE — One person was rescued from their vehicle after it crashed into the Sauquoit Creek off state Route 8 Saturday afternoon, according to the Willowvale Fire Department.

Authorities said the driver was northbound on Route 8 around 4:50 p.m. when their SUV went off the roadway and down an embankment. The vehicle became partially submerged in the Sauquoit Creek.

Clayville Deputy Fire Chief Christopher Hryb witnessed the crash and quickly called for help, authorities said. Hryb was able to assist the driver and guide rescue personnel to their exact location.

Responding firefighters and paramedics were able to safely extricate the driver from the vehicle. Authorities said the driver, whose identity was not released, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
