More than 4,000 gallons of milk, along with boxes of meat, produce and additional dairy items, will be given away during a food distribution event on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park, beginning at 11 a.m.
The American Dairy Association North East, along with the Dairy Farmers of America, Renzi Foodservice, Oneida County and other community partners, will facilitate the distribution of the milk and more than 21,000 pounds of food at the local drive-through event.
There will be 360 boxes each of meat, produce, and additional dairy items, each containing 20 pounds of products. Each vehicle will receive two gallons of milk and one of each box, while supplies last.
The distribution will take place at 100 Otis St. Drivers should look for signage and directives from event officials to line up.
The event was made possible through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program which provides government-funded grants to food banks and community organizations to help provide much needed food to those in need.
To ensure the safety and health of all involved in the distribution, there will be a drive- through distribution process for this event, organizers said. All drivers and passengers must remain in their vehicles and will be prompted to open their trunk to receive milk and products. If cars do not have a trunk, they will be prompted to open their window. Walk-ups will not be permitted. No registration or paperwork is required for this distribution.
By the end of August, ADANE officials said the organization will have facilitated the distribution of over half a million gallons of milk since the organization began collaborating with dairy companies and local community groups in June.
