Dog dies in house fire


LYONS FALLS — A family dog was killed at a house fire in Lewis County on Tuesday.

Fire officials said flames were spotted on the first floor of 6726 McAlpine St. at about 9:22 a.m. Tuesday. Volunteers from four departments arrived on the scene and doused the flames, officials said.

The home is a total loss. Officials said a dog perished in the fire. The property is owned by Melinda Cobb, who resides at the home with her family, authorities stated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No people were harmed.

The Lyons Falls, Constableville, Turin and Port Leyden fire departments responded.
