Democrats seek new county elections commissioner
Oneida County Democrats hope to have a nominee to replace Democratic Oneida County Elections Commissioner Michael Galimo by mid-January.
Galimo has given his resignation effective Dec. 31 to take another job.
Oneida County Democratic Committee Chairman Bill Thickstun has appointed a nominating committee to review applications, interview candidates and make a recommendation. He said he hopes to bring a name to the Board of Legislators for the board’s Jan. 16 meeting.
Applicants must be registered Democrats residing in the county. Those interested and meeting the qualifications may send a cover letter and resume to Thickstun at wthickstun@gmail.com or to nominating committee chairman John Jacon at jjacon@me.com by Dec. 31.
Elections commissioners, one each from the Democratic and Republican parties, oversee the operation of the Board of Elections, including registering voters, handling nominating petitions and other processes, and running primary and general elections.
The base salary for the two jobs is listed in the 2019 county budget as $80,065.
The Legislature re-appointed Galimo and his Republican counterpart, Rose Marie Grimaldi in November to terms running from this Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2020.
