Dedication ceremony planned at Vietnam Veterans Memorial with helicopter on site


A dedication ceremony for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Griffiss Business and Technology Park will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.

Members of the New York State Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund will host color guards from :

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2246 in Rome;

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office;

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 944 from Utica; and

The Eastern Air Defense Sector.

The guest speaker for the dedication ceremony will be Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon, D-119, Marcy. Mary Wheeler, Vietnam Gold Star Mother, will also place a Gold Star Mother’s and Families wreath along with a U.S. Navy Seawolves member in honor of the 44 members of the Seawolves who were killed in action.

The New York State Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, Inc., recently lifted a freshly repainted Vietnam-era helicopter onto the site of the memorial as part of Phase 2 of their project.
