Crash sends one to hospital, police seek other driver who fled scene

One person was hospitalized and one remains on the run from the authorities after a motor vehicle crash on West Liberty Street in Rome Thursday afternoon, according to law enforcement officials.

Sheriff’s deputies said they were on patrol on Erie Boulevard shortly before 3 p.m. when they attempted to pull over a 2003 Toyota Rav 4. Deputies said the driver seemed to slow down as they pulled into the Lowe’s parking lot, only to then speed off from Lowe’s onto West Liberty Street.

Deputies pursued and said the driver ran the stop sign at the intersection with North Levitt Street, leading to a crash between the Toyota and a 2014 Chevy Cruz, being driven by Tiffany Marineau, 25, of Rome.

Deputies said the suspect fled the crash scene on foot and remains on the run.

Meanwhile, Marineau was taken to Rome Memorial Hospital for minor injuries, authorities said.

The crash and the suspect driver remain under investigation.
