Among agenda items at Wednesday’s Rome Common Council meeting is a resolution that would support a grant application by Mohawk Valley EDGE to the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
The application is for a $300,000 county-wide brownfield assessment grant, “to assess sites contaminated by hazardous substances, pollutants, contaminants (including hazardous substances co-mingled with petroleum), and/or petroleum,” according to documents.
The resolution continues that there is financial requirement from the city. The grant money is being sought to fund the work of identifying and planning for cleanup of properties which includes surveying and groundwater analysis.
Due to COVID-19 closures, Rome City Hall remains closed to the public.
