Colgate’s Richardson named Mid-Major Player of the Year finalist

Posted

Colgate men’s basketball player Tucker Richardson is a finalist for the Lou Henson National Mid-Major Player of the Year.

Richardson was named to the mid-season watch list for the national honor. Since then he broke the program’s assists and steals records en route to sweeping the Patriot League major awards with Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Richardson, the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2018-19, is the first player in Patriot League history to earn all four major awards. He is the only Patriot League men’s basketball player to record 1,700 points, 700 rebounds and 600 assists.

The Flemington, New Jersey, native has been part of Colgate’s four Patriot League championships, four NCAA tournaments and every 20-win season in program history. He topped it off with Patriot League Tournament MVP honors after posting a triple-double in the championship game with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, the program’s first triple-double since 1997 and the first player nationally to record a triple-double in a conference title game in more than two decades.

Richardson and the Raiders (26-8) learn their NCAA tournament fate when the 68-team bracket is announced at Sunday’s Selection Show at 6 p.m. on CBS.
