LAKE PLACID — Colgate advanced to the ECAC men's hockey championship game after Ross Mitton scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to give his team a 2-1 win.

With the win, the Raiders will play for the Whitelaw Cup Saturday for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Colgate will play Harvard in the championship game tonight at 7:30.

Daniel Panetta also scored for Colgate, and Carter Gylander had a standout game in goal, recording 40 saves and earning his 18th win of the season. Gylander made a combined 11 saves in the two extra periods to shut down the Bobcats on multiple scoring chances.

"What a game. Two teams that left it all on the ice," Colgate coach Don Vaughan said. "We played probably our best game of the year. From Carter on out, we were good, and so were they. We had a plan and stuck to it. I am very happy for this group. We battled and now get to play for a championship. All year, we stayed dialed in by focusing on the next game as the most important game. It clearly is, and will regroup and be ready. Onward."

Mitton scored the game-winner with just over 11 minutes remaining in the second extra period. Matt Verboon tapped the puck to Alex DiPaolo, who fired a shot that got saved. Mitton wrapped around the net and tapped the loose puck into the goal to give the Raiders the victory.

The first overtime period saw multiple scoring opportunities from both sides but nothing on the scoreboard. The Raiders had a power play chance early in the period but could not capitalize. Colgate also picked up a penalty kill in each extra period.

Quinnipiac tied the game at the 16:48 mark of the third. Zach Metsa passed to Colin Graf, who fired a shot that got saved. Ethan de Jong found the loose puck in front of the goal and finished a shot to knot the score up at 1-1.

Colgate outshot the Bobcats 14-7 in the final period but could not put one in. The Raiders shut down a Quinnipiac power play as well.

Neither side could find the back of the net in the middle frame. Gylander came up big for the Raiders, making 10 saves. That included multiple stops during a Quinnipiac power play that carried over to the third period when the Raiders killed it off.

Colgate struck first with a goal from Panetta with just over three minutes remaining in the opening period. Levi Glasman intercepted a Bobcats' pass in Colgate's offensive zone before passing to Panetta. The freshman skated in and slotted a backhand shot past Quinnipiac's goalie.

The Raiders outshot the Bobcats 47-41 in the game.
