Volunteers at the First Baptist Church Clothing Closet want to extend a “thank you” to the community for the on-going support of providing clean, usable clothing, shoes, bedding, etc. to the outreach program that has benefited the area’s less fortunate neighbors.
First Baptist is closing the closet for the months of July and August to give organizers time to reorganize and arrange the tremendous amount of donations received in the last few months. Emergencies will be addressed by calling 315-825-5734.
During these last few months, First Baptist organizers said the closet has only had two or three people per week needing items.
In previous months, the closet averaged 15 to 20 per week.
Ninety-nine percent of donations are clean, useful and dropped off during working hours.
Two weeks ago on Saturday, someone dropped 10 large black garbage bags containing clothing in the church parking lot. Overnight the bags were all ripped open and items ransacked. Organizers cleaned it up and put the mess in the trash, only to have it happen again before collectors arrived. This time it was a worse job of cleaning up as it had rained and all items were thoroughly soaked.
In light of this, volunteers ask for continued support and attention to the Clothing Closet rules.
