COLUMN: Christ in me through the Atonement

There have many times when I hear people say that they have fallen from grace, or that God would never call on them because of their past.

It’s a reoccurring theme that I have heard over and over again. This may people to turn away from church or to stay away from Christians altogether for fear of retribution or judgment.

What we have to remember is that we can not earn our way to heaven, and there is not one righteous, not one! We are all sinners saved by the grace of God.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.” This grace, is greater than all of our sins. Grace; an unmerited, free gift given by God who loves us, not because we loved him. This was proven by Jesus Christ who gave his life on the cross for all.

Because Christ died for all, (2 Corinthians 5:15 “And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again,” He died in essence for us, the death that you and I deserved. Jesus died so that we could be freed from sin, and have the opportunity to be a part of the family of God. It is where our relationship begins. When we develop that relationship, we become that new creation in Christ and become a testament to those around us.

May we all remember that it began with nothing we did or could do, but by the obedience of Jesus to the Father. No matter where have been, or where we are now, Christ’s loving arms await you. The things you can accomplish with the supernatural power of Christ in you through the gift of the Holy Spirit is limitless.

2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” You do not have to accomplish anything on your own; the accomplishments come through the atonement of the cross of Christ. (Atonement-We have become one with him)

My challenge to you is to accept Jesus where you are, and never believe that you are not worthy of his love and calling. Accept the free gift of grace!
