Child killed in Madison County crash
BROOKFIELD — An 11-year-old boy was killed when the vehicle he was riding in crashed into a parked flatbed tow truck in Madison County Monday evening, according to the New York State Police.
Troopers said Abner G. Padilla, 29, of Utica, was southbound on Route 8 shortly before 6 p.m. when his 2003 Subaru Forester crashed into the back of a 2001 Ford flatbed tow truck, which was partially parked in the roadway with all lights activated.
A backseat passenger, 11-year-old Nelson G. Padilla, of Pennsylvania, was thrown out of the vehicle, troopers said. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Abner Padilla and a 9-year-old child in the backseat were not injured.
Troopers said Abner Padilla showed no signs of impairment at the time of the crash. It was later determined that Padilla is unlicensed. No criminal charges have been filed so far. The crash remains under investigation.
