Chamber names LaRoma Pizzeria as its ‘Member of the Week’


The Rome Area Chamber of Commerce has named the LaRoma Pizzeria, 600 Floyd Ave., its Member of the Week. 

“After mastering the art of preparing homemade Italian dishes at the age of 33, Russell Digristina decided he wanted to become a restaurant owner so he could offer his family recipes for everyone to enjoy,” the chamber said in its announcement.

“He spent five years on the family farm in Schuyler and saved enough money to open a pizzeria in Rome in 1988. Today, LaRoma Pizzeria and Restaurant is located on the corner of East Bloomfield Street and Floyd Avenue in a building where a major expansion took place in 2001, growing his business from 1,200-square feet to 3,000-square feet.”

“The design of the new restaurant is state-of-the-art with a large open kitchen area, which has allowed him to expand his menu from pizza and wings to items such as veal, chicken, seafood, and pasta dishes,” the chamber announcement added.

“With Russell’s old family recipes in hand he started creating Italian specialties that are imaginative and very popular with his customers. In addition to developing an extensive menu, he has assembled a staff that concentrates on ‘Service, Service, Service’ because his customers are a big part of the LaRoma family and its continued success,” the announcement added.

“Russell is very passionate towards his employees. Most have been around for many years,” the chamber said. “Don (Sjoblom), who has been with LaRoma for 30 years mastering the art of throwing the freshest dough, sauce and cheese together, combining flavorful fresh ingredients. Rex (French), the general manager for 30 years, training the young to be hard workers in life; Junior (Ray Peck), the chef for 25 years, who has assembled the most flavorful Italian dishes imaginable, Alisha (Martin) with 18 years as the expediter, overseeing the day to day business and making customers feel like family, and many other truly dedicated employees with 15-plus years, delivering top notch service to all customers.”

In 2016, with his children having been involved in the business for more than a decade, Russell opened a second location in Camden on Harden Boulevard.
