Chamber honors historic Rome company

Baum’s Castorine Co. has been named the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce member of the week.

Baum’s manufactures industrial lubricants. The company was founded by the Baum family in 1879. The Mowry family purchased it from the Baums in 1903. It is Rome’s longest-lived industry in terms of unchanged name and family management, according to the chamber.

The company is located at 200 Matthew St., and can be reached by phone at 315-336-8154 or email

“At Baum’s Castorine, they take pride in formulating superior lubricant products that are designed to extend machine life and reduce maintenance costs,” the chamber noted. Products include Baum’s Novacool line of fire extinguishing and cooling products. Baum’s Novacool fire suppressant is used nationally as well as locally, including by the Rome Fire Department.
