ROME — The Capitol Theatre, 230 W. Dominick St., has postponed its first of two SummerStage productions for the season.

ShowStoppers, which was to be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16, has been postponed. The production of Jesus Christ Superstar, set for Aug. 4-6, will continue as scheduled.

“There was an unexpected occurrence that necessitated us postponing the SummerStage ShowStoppers performances, originally scheduled for July 15 and 16,” said Art Pierce, executive director of the Capitol Theatre. “We hope to be able to reschedule this for the fall.”

Those who purchased tickets will be refunded in full.

Peter Loftus, director of SummerStage shows for more than 25 years, had said he was excited to get veterans of past shows together to celebrate the reopening of theater since the COVID-19 pandemic.

ShowStoppers is to include ensemble numbers, solos, and duets by more than 50 performers, and include songs from West Side Story, Mary Poppins, Rent, Spamalot, Hairspray, Name, Carousel and A Chorus Line.
