Camden students compete in Shakespeare competition
CAMDEN — Students at Camden High School participated Jan. 31 in the English Speaking Union’s Shakespeare competition. This year marked the 30th anniversary for Camden in the event.
For the competition, students must memorize and perform a 20-line monologue from a Shakespearean work. In the school-wide competition, Camden presented awards to six honorees.
This year’s winner was Owen Carr, who portrayed Shylock from “The Merchant of Venice.” Second was Alyssa Vera and Isabella Wing took third place. Marley Hilliker, Trevor Young and Dylan Keyes earned honorable mention. Next month, Carr will head to Syracuse Stage to perform his monologue and a Shakespearean sonnet. The winner of the regional event will advance to nationals in New York City.
