WESTERN — A young calf was rescued out of a spring box after accidentally falling through at a farm on Tannery Road early Saturday morning, according to the Western Fire Department.

Fire officials said the calf fell through the covering on a spring box sometime Saturday morning and was discovered shortly after 7 a.m. A spring box is a structure used to collect groundwater. Authorities said the water was shallow enough that the calf could stand with its head above water.

Responding firefighters wrapped lifting slings around the animal and pulled it out without injury, officials said. The calf was then reunited with its mother on the farm.
