Black History Month programs at Jervis library, Capitol Theatre

ROME — The Rome Branch NAACP has a trio of Black History Month events coming up at the Jervis Public Library, 613 N Washington St. and the Capitol Theatre, 230 W Dominick St.

Alien Tomato Party: A Stellar Salad Lunch is at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the Jervis Public Library with Mohawk Valley Health Systems and Excellus BlueCrossBlueShield. There will be salads, story time and crafts provided.

Black History Month Storytime is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Jervis Public Library. Stories by Black authors will be read by students from Rome Free Academy. Snacks will be provided. Blood pressure screenings will be available as well as heart health and vaccine information.

Health Fair and Free Family Movie Night is at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at The Capitol Theatre with a screening of “Cool Runnings” (1993, Disney). There will be tables of information from the sponsors, a light meal and free popcorn and soda.

The events are sponsored by the Mohawk Valley Health System, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Connected Community Schools, The Center, Jervis Public Library and Rome Capital Theatre.
