At least one displaced in Oriskany Falls fire
ORISKANY FALLS — At least one person has been displaced from a Saturday afternoon house fire on North Main Street in Oriskany Falls, according to the Oriskany Falls Fire Department.
Fire officials said the alarm was raised at 3:22 p.m. Saturday for a house fire at North Main and Cottage streets. Past fire chief Dale Petrie was in the area and was the first firefighter on the scene, where he encountered heavy smoke and flames on the first floor of the residence, officials stated.
Petrie was able to crawl a few feet into the front door and dampen the fire with his personal fire extinguisher, officials said. Crews arrived on the scene with proper apparatus shortly thereafter and took over firefighting efforts.
An aggressive interior attack kept the fire contained to the room where it started, authorities stated. The home was searched an no spread was found, though there was smoke damage throughout the residence and some water damage, officials said.
Crews remained on the scene dousing hot spots and cleaning up until 4:17 p.m.
The Oriskany Falls, Waterville, Deansboro and Madison fire departments responded.
