Area woman celebrates 107th birthday
BOONVILLE — Thelma Gallagher, a resident of VestraCare’s Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, celebrated her 107 birthday recently. She was born on Sept. 5, 1915, in Richfield Springs, to Francis and Helen (Smith) Hecox.
She met her husband, the late Edward Gallagher, at a dance. The two exchanged wedding vows in 1946. They were married for 42 years before Edward’s passing. Edward was a carpenter while Thelma worked at General Electric for 10 years and as a nurse at Marcy State Hospital. They resided in a house that Edward built on Kayuta Lake.
Thelma has been a resident at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for two years. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her fellow residents and relaxing. Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center provides 24-hour skilled nursing care, subacute rehabilitation, dedicated memory care and respite/short-term care.
