Area man receives honors for performance at Marines Corps recruit training

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. —
Isaiah R. Turner, a June 2018 graduate of Rome Free Academy and a May 2020 graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College, has recently received a Certificate of Commendation: Superior Performance of Duty while undergoing Marine Corps recruit training.

Turner, who enlisted in the Marines on May 17, 2021, attended recruit training at the First Recruit Training Battalion Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island from June 5 to Aug. 27. He received recognition as an Honor Graduate for high endeavors and superior accomplishment, according to an announcement.

A member of Delta Company, Platoon 1064, Turner was selected as Honor Graduate by 222 of his peers.

Following his completion of recruit training, Turner attended the School of Infantry, East Camp Geiger in North Carolina, graduating that training on Monday, Sept. 20.

Turner is the son of Stacy Turner, of Rome, and grandson of Shirley and Edwin Turner Jr., of Lee Center.
