UTICA — Utica Royalties will perform a live African music and dance concert at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Based in Utica, Utica Royalties is a nonprofit youth program for kids. Their program will feature singing and dancing, emphasizing music from African cultures. A highlight of the program will be unique drum rhythms.

Hawa Peters, organizer, stated in a press release, “Utica Royalties leverages the universal languages of music and dance to achieve several goals, including raising our community’s children up, integrating African culture into mainstream society, and helping our community enjoy a fun evening of wholesome entertainment.”

Peters, a native of Sierra Leone, resides in Utica, and is a recent graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College.

She is a champion of diversity, expression, and global unity, the announcement said, adding that through her work with children she hopes to create future leaders who are based in acceptance and alignment.
