Accused burglar charged in Lewis County
LOWVILLE — A Lewis County man is facing multiple charges after allegedly forcing his way into another person's home on Trinity Avenue, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies said Justin E. Branagan, 35, of Port Leyden, forced his way into the back door of a home on Trinity Avenue in Lowville around 4:20 p.m. Feb. 19. Branagan was confronted by the homeowner and fled.
A neighbor followed Branagan from the home and helped law enforcement officers find him on nearby Forest Avenue. Deputies said it was learned that Branagan had attempted to break into another home in the area, but was unsuccessful.
Branagan is charged with one count each of felony second-degree burglary, and third- and fourth-degree mischief, deputies said. He was arraigned in court and was sent to the county jail without bail. He is scheduled to reappear in court.
