‘1776’ limited Broadway revival coming to The Stanley

UTICA — What will it take to get two dozen powerfully passionate, exceedingly complicated and all-too-human individuals to settle their differences while they hold the very future of a nation in their hands?

Find out as the Broadway Theatre League of Utica brings the limited Broadway revival tour of “1776” to the Stanley Theatre, 259 Genesee St. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11.

American Repertory Theater at Harvard University/Roundabout Theatre Company’s new production of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, “1776,” is a tuneful, witty and constantly surprising reexamination of a pivotal moment in American history from directors Jeffrey L. Page (“Violet”) and Diane Paulus (“Waitress”).

The new “1776” comes to The Stanley Theatre with the celebrated Broadway cast that reflects multiple representations of race, gender and ethnicity. You may never think about our country — who we are and why — the same way again.

Following the premiere of the revival at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University and on Broadway at Roundabout Theatre Company, the tour of “1776” is making limited engagement stops at major cities across North America.

“1776” features music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone. It is based on a concept by Sherman Edwards. Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus and MTV Music Video Award-winning choreographer Jeffrey L. Page direct the production.

Tickets range from $36 to $91 and are available at The Stanley Theatre box office, by calling 315-724-4000 or by visiting Ticketmaster.com. Group orders of 10 or more may be placed by calling 315-624-9444.
