ROME, NY — George A. Rossi, 52, of 8135 Turin Rd., Rome, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at SUNY Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness.
Born June 27, 1960, in Rome, NY, a son of George A. and Jane I. Morris Rossi, he was educated in Rome schools and was a graduate of Rome Free Academy.
He was formerly married to Tami Wells in Rome.
Mr. Rossi was a partner, along with his brother, Marc, and sister, Jane, in a variety of companies that were started by his father, George A. Rossi, that included Stonehedge Health & Rehabilitation Centers, Inc., George A. Rossi Construction Corporation, Universal Linens Corp., Tuxedo Mobile Homes, Inc., Covewood Trailer Park, and Route 233 Store-All, all based in the Rome area.
Throughout his life, George was gifted with a wonderful talent for being mechanically inclined and took great pleasure in making, repairing and operating Radio/Remote Controlled Helicopters with his son. His favorite pastimes and interests included playing golf, fishing and performing computer tasks. He especially enjoyed family occasions and get-togethers where he could spend time with his daughter and grandsons, his sister, Jane, and the rest of his family. Whenever he could, he took pleasure in a winter’s drive and spending time at his family’s Marco Island, FL, home and deep sea fishing with his brother while there.
Surviving are his children, including his son, George A. Rossi, III, and his daughter, Ashley R. Rossi, both of Rome; grandsons Treyvon and Demani; three sisters, Jane A. Halbritter, of Rome, Connie December, of Pine Island, FL, and Georgianna Clark, of Melbourne, FL; a brother, Marc A. Rossi and his companion, Elaine Bambury, of Ava; his aunt, Alberta Rossi, of Rome; a special friend Sadie, and her two children; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, from 7-9 p.m., and Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, 418 N. George St., Rome.
George’s funeral will be on Thursday, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. Prayer Service at the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass from St. John the Baptist Church, Rome, with the Rev. Joseph Sestito, Ret., officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Rome.
