Marjorie T. Mussen, 88, of Rome, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012, with her loving family at her side. She was born on May 3, 1924 in Alamorgordo, NM, the daughter of Clay and Josephine Baird Thomason. At the age of 16 she moved to Waterville, NY to live with her aunt and uncle. Marjorie was a graduate of Waterville High School. On October 2, 1942, she married H. Irving Mussen, a union of over 54 years, with his passing on March 13, 1997.
For a number of years, Marjorie was employed in the business office of the Oneida County Hospital until the facility closed in the 1970s. With the hospital’s closure, Marjorie was able to become a full-time homemaker, Mom, Grandmother and eventually great and even a great-great-grandmother.
She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Martha and Paul Piske of Oneida, Marye Ann Harris of Rome, and Janis Thomason-Mussen of Williamson. She leaves eight beloved grandchildren, Tammy, Jimmy, Kathleen, Lisa, Laura, John, Wendy and Amy; fourteen great-grandchildren, Nicole, Daniel, Ethan, Brennan, Cameron, Benjamin, Camille, Natasha, Saleana, Ryleigh, Hannah, Ryan, Brooklyn and Seth; and a great-great-granddaughter, Charlotte. She also leaves a brother, Clay and Kathryn Thomason of Las Cruses, N.M.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth, and her son-in-law, John E. Harris.
The family would like to thank her Kossuth St. neighbors for their kindnesses over the years that helped her remain in her home. Also, they thank the staff of the Applewood wing at the Lutheran Care Home for their truly good and loving care.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
