Ailing boy, 8, gets wish; sworn in as Rome Police officer


OFFICER FOX — Deputy Chief Kevin Simons swears in Ashton Fox, 8, as a Rome Police Officer on Saturday. Ashton, 8, was diagnosed with Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia — Acute Myeloid Leukemia in March. The disease is rare, and there is no standard treatment. Due to his illness, both Rome Police and Fire departments visited Ashton at his home on Saturday.  With the help of Make-A-Wish Foundation, Ashton has been sworn in to the state and DeWitt Police in addition to the RPD and RFD.  Ashton is the son of Amy Accuri.
