Nesting ospreys on Preston Hill

NESTING OSPREY — A mother osprey settles down with her three chicks for the night in a nest off Preston Hill Road. A female osprey typically lays up to four eggs in the spring in a nest of sticks built at the top of a dead tree. The nest is used year after year and can reach 13 feet in height. The young leave the nest after eight to 10 weeks but remain in the area for another two months until they go off to build nests of their own. (Sentinel photo by John Clifford)
