Two dairy farm tours offered

Cornell Cooperative Extension’s summer dairy tour series continues with two farm stops during August.

There is no charge for the tours but participants are asked to reserve a spot by calling 736-3394 ext. 132so they can be contacted in the event of changes.

Scheduled are:

Friday, Aug. 10, 1:30 p.m. at Smith Homestead Farm, 9940 Mallory Rd., Sauquoit. A tour of this Century Farm will highlight the DeLaval track system used to maneuver the milking machines and improve milker’s comfort level. Stall size and design changes will be discussed, as well as tunnel ventilation systems. RSVP by Aug. 8.

Friday, Aug. 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Spring Grove Farm, 3423 Fountain St., Clinton. This tour of Mike Cosgrove’s farm will place emphasis on labor saving techniques using custom field work, bunk management and a look at alternative heifer facilities. RSVP by Aug. 22.
