Westernville Independence can’t overcome slow start

TOWN OF WESTERNVILLE — The Westernville Independence suffered a 4-2 setback against the Herkimer Booters after falling behind 3-0 in the first half of Wednesday’s Central New York State Soccer League contest.

The Booters took a 3-0 halftime lead on goals by Michelle Gibbs, Bre Nasypany and Brooke Nasypany.

In the second half, Westernville’s Marie Mueller scored early off an assist by Daria Orekhov before Courtney Wheeler then converted on her penalty kick to make it 3-2. Bre Nasypany later added her second goal of the game to close the scoring.

Westernville goalie Shelby Egnaczyk finished with seven saves, while Herkimer’s Megan Will also finished with seven stops.

Westernville, 2-4, will visit the Six Shooters at Waterville High School next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
