Foundation gives Capitol grant
for tank removal

Rome Capitol Theatre has received a $5,000 grant for removal of a recently discovered, abandoned oil tank from The Rome Community Foundation.

Foundation directors approved the allocation based on a recommendation from the Stevens-Kingsley Fund advisers.

The tank is located on the rear portion of the property at 216-224 W. Dominick St. The theater has been ordered by the state Department of Environmental Conservation to remove the tank, which was discovered in May 2011 during maintenance.

Eggan Excavating will be responsible for the tank’s removal and disposal, which is slated this summer.

"We are so grateful for this contribution from the Foundation," says Kylie Pierce, Theater development director. "The necessity for immediate removal of the tank was unanticipated, and this allocation will help immensely to make sure that we remain environmentally responsible and compliant with state and local regulations."
