Sherrill music Tuesdays

SHERRILL — Free concerts sponsored by the Gorman Foundation at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays start June 26with Verona’s Fritz’s Polka Band in the Reilly-Mumford Memorial Park gazebo.

The concerets will be at 6:30 p.m. except for fireworks night when the concert will start at 7:30 p.m. In the event of heavy rain the concert will be moved to the Community Activity Center gym, 139 E. Hamilton Ave. Organizers advise visitors to bring lawn chairs and blankets and in the case of light rain, bring an umbrella.

The schedule, with descriptions provided by city officials:

June 26 Fritz’s Polka Band — Verona’s polka princes return to the Sherrill stage for a night of their upbeat and fun music, featuring modern polkas, country and even rock ‘n’ roll tunes sure to get the audience on their feet.

July 3 George Wesley — Travel to a summer in a far away exotic locale without leaving Sherrill as the sounds of reggae return to the Reilly-Mumford Memorial Park.

July 10 Ice Cream Night! Party Nuts — It’ll be a party when the Party Nuts come to town, featuring an evening of golden oldie rock ‘n’ roll sing alongs that encourage plenty of audience participation. Plus a special treat ... free ice cream for all kids and kids at heart.

July 17 Easy Money Big Band — Utica-based Big Band promises to play a little bit of everything, hand clapping music for young and old alike.

July 24 Billionaires — Featuring both male and female lead vocalists and a tight rhythm section, the Billionaires deliver expert rhythm and blues, soul, ballads, rock ‘n’ roll, and standards.

July 28, 7:30 p.m. Fireworks Night! Matt Chase and Thunder Canyon — Our annual fireworks night adds even more excitement to the fiery show of modern country and oldies rock ‘n’ roll by these perennial Sherrill favorites. Fireworks following at approximately 9:30pm.

July 31 Thistle Dew — Central New York’s premier rock ‘n’ blues band, this Norwich-based band covers the atmospheric classics of Jefferson Airplane, Aretha Franklin, and Joe Cocker, plus their originals.

Aug. 7 Joe Angerosa — With a note-perfect performance and authentic costumes, this Utica based crooner channels the timeless classics from the king of rock ‘n’ roll.

Aug. 14 Fab Cats — The fun, fun, fun music of The Beach Boys will be revisited by these musicians, taking us out on a Surfin‘ Safari ‘til Daddy takes the T-Bird away.

Aug. 21 Chief Big Way — Taking a break from his world tour with Anthrax, Joey Belladonna teams with musicians extraordinaire Joe Precourt and Dave Mickelson in a power trio playing the best classic rock, featuring the likes of Journey, Pink Floyd, Bad Company, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Aug. 28 Matt Chase and Thunder Canyon — The season comes to a thunderous end with an encore performance by these favorite country rockers. Make sure you stay to the end for their heartfelt patriotic tribute, sending the 2012 season off in style!
