Michael J. "Mike" Slaga, 89, of Floyd, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford. He was born on September 1, 1922, in Rome, the son of Walter and Victoria Soyltus Slaga. He attended Holland Patent schools. On November 20, 1954, Mike was united in marriage to Eleanor Roser in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Rome.
He was the owner and operator of Slaga Dairy Farm for forty years.
Mike proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army serving during World War II.
He was a member of the Faith Community of St. Leo and St. Ann’s in Holland Patent and an honorary member of the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving besides his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Eleanor; are two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Mary Ann Slaga, of Spring Hill, FL, and Richard (Laurie) Slaga, of Rome; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Buczkowski, of Floyd, and Rose and Ray Patala, of Indian Harbor, FL; five grandchildren, Michael, Kelly, Matthew, R.J., and Patrick; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Brianne; and several nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Laurie Slaga; three sisters, Helen Schram, Stella Remick, and Leona Rostkiwicz; and three brothers, John Slaga, Frank Slaga, and Edward Slaga.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo and St. Ann’s Church in Holland Patent where the Rev. Vincent P. Long will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rome. Family and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
