Robert H. Lauber, 75, formerly of Rome and Waterville, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 9, 2012 in Las Vegas NV. Born April 9, 1937 in Rome, he was the son of Horace D. and Grace E. (Wason) Lauber. Bob graduated from Rome Free Academy with the Class of 1955 and attended Utica College. He became an Eagle Scout in Troop #1 First Baptist Church in 1953. He served honorably in the US Air Force and as part of the 174th Air National Guard "The Boys from Syracuse" for 6 years. On April 6, 1963, in the Town of Lee, he was united in marriage to Jan F. Turner. Mrs. Lauber predeceased him on October 13, 2001. Bob and Jan started their lives together in Albany and North Tonawanda before settling in Waterville where they lived for 30 years. Bob was employed by numerous large mechanical contractors as a salesman, plumber and pipe fitter and was an active member of Rotary and the Masons. After Mrs. Lauber’s passing, Bob moved back to Rome and enjoyed the company and support of his life-long friends, Don Campbell, John Strong, Ray Plantz and Bruce Evans.
Bob is survived by two daughters, one son and their families, Carolyn and Fred Genier, Jr. of Mechanicville, NY, Jennifer and Tony Mascari of Las Vegas NV, Todd and Kim (Aranda) Lauber of Denver CO. Also surviving are grandchildren Kelsi and Michael Mascari, Sarah Frament and Fredrick Genier III, Noah, Owen and Nina Lauber. Bob was predeceased by his sister Faith (Lauber) McHenry.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 22, 2012 in the First Baptist Church, 301 W. Embargo St., Rome and interment at Port Leyden Cemetery.
