Timothy D. Grinnell, 63, of Mobile, AL, and formerly of Williamstown, NY, passed away June 3, 2012, in South Alabama University Hospital. He was born March 25, 1949, in Camden, the son of Cecil and Letitia Keeney Grinnell. He was a graduate of Camden Central High School, Class of 1966.
Upon graduation, Tim voluntary enlisted in the US Navy during the height of the Vietnam War. He served on the USS Tioga County (flat-bottom supply ship), bringing supplies to soldiers in-country. The Navy then sent/paid for Tim to attend Pensacola (FL) Community College, where he earned his Association Degree. He was then stationed in Seoul, South Korea, for two years. In 1976 he was stationed at FICEURLANT, Norfolk, VA, and obtained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In 1980, Tim was commissioned as an officer in the US Navy, CWO2-Chief Warrant Officer, and was then transferred to Haverfordwest, Wales, UK. Tim served a total of 14 1/2 years in the Navy. He continued to work for the government until his retirement in 2003 as a USPS Letter Carrier.
Tim was a Disabled American Veteran and member of the Williamstown American Legion and the Camden VFW. He was also an avid card player, hunter and fisherman, and he liked nothing better than spending the day out on his Harley.
He is survived by his wife, Charlann Spiegel Grinnell, of Troy, NY; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Terry Hardy, of Huntsville, AL, and Brenda and Jim Zike, of Taberg; a son, Timothy Grinnell, Jr., of Mobile, AL; a sister, Ardeth Mumpton, of Syracuse; six grandchildren, Logan, Braden, Gwyneth, Jared, Morgan, and Erica. Tim was predeceased by three brothers, Roy, Orton, and Paul.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 12, at 7 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc. 9464 State Rt. 13, Camden. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
