Shirley A. Dozois, 64, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012, in Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 15, 1947, in Utica, the daughter of Fred and Elsie Williams Hillage.
Shirley worked for several years at United Cerebral Palsy of Rome. She also devoted her life to the community through her many years of volunteerism. She was active at the Rome Rescue Mission from the first day it opened. Shirley also helped out at the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities. She never stopped giving of herself, and it was her final wish that her body be donated to the Albany Medical Center Anatomical Gift Program.
She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Shirley is survived by three daughters, Nancy Dashnaw, of Rome, Tammy Ciccone, of Port Charlotte, FL, and Marion Dozois, of Lee Center; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Kristal Dozois, II, of Rome; one sister, Helen Coleman, of Jacksonville, FL; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Patricia Hillage, of Hyattsville, MD; two special friends, Edward Monroe, of Paradise, CA, and Mike Jackson, of Rome; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Fred and Robert.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Rome Rescue Mission.
