The former director of the Rome Defense Finance and Accounting Service has been named director of the DFAS facility in Indianapolis, which is the largest DFAS operating site and has links with Rome.
The new assignment for Aaron Gillison, who headed Rome DFAS at Griffiss park from September 2008-August 2010, was announced by the Department of Defense. He most recently had been deputy site director at Indianapolis DFAS.
The Indianapolis site, which has about 4,100 DFAS employees, has some operational influence over Rome DFAS which has about 1,100, said Edward Abounader, president of the union representing Rome DFAS staffers. Both sites handle accounting-related work for the Army as their largest customer, so there is a "linkage" between Indianapolis and Rome, he explained. DFAS also has three other such operating sites with various military customers.
Gillison’s assignment at Indianapolis is a positive development for Rome DFAS, said Abounader, noting Gillison’s familiarity with Rome and his accomplishments there. DFAS has a small headquarters site in Washington, D.C., but Indianapolis is becoming a centralized location for all DFAS offices, he added.
