Genevieve M. Panych, 89, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the Katherine Lutheran Home in Clinton. She was born on April 1, 1923, in Rome, the daughter of Thomas and Sophie Orzeckowski Kozlowski. She attended Rome schools. On June 16, 1945, Genevieve was united in marriage to Theodore W. Panych in Transfiguration Church. Mr. Panych passed away on February 17, 1984.
She was employed by Rome Developmental Center for several years, retiring in 1985. She was previously employed by General Cable.
Genevieve was a member of Transfiguration Church, the Frank J. Steczko Post Ladies Auxiliary, the Mohawk Valley Volunteer Association, and a former Den Mother for the Boys Scouts.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Panych and Carol Wightman, of Clinton, and Walter Panych, of Rapid City, SD; a sister, Sophie Taubert, of Oriskany; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Kris, Keirsta, Kim, Rebecca, Tyler, Joshua, and Shelbie; and two great-grandchildren, McKinley and Aubree. Genevieve was predeceased by four brothers, Stan, Mayfred, Steven, and Roger Kozlowski.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012, at 10:15 a.m. at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, and a Mass of the Christian Burial at Transfiguration Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
