Louis A Martin Jr., age 75 of Westernville died April 30, 2012. He was born January 4, 1937 on the family homestead in Deerfield NY to Louis and Edna Martin. Louis was educated in Whitesboro and Holland Patent Schools. He served his country in the National Guard from 1956 to 1959.
On July 6, 1957 Louis was united in marriage with Rochelle (Dolly) Cook at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Holland Patent. Lou and Shelly enjoyed 52 active years together. They were regular participants in The Boilermaker and numerous other road races. Louis enjoyed canoe camping in the Adirondacks and a special week long trip in Algonquin Provincial Park with family and friends.He also enjoyed cross country and downhill skiing.
Louis was employed for many years by R.B. Humphrey trucking as a long haul truck driver. He traveled the United States from Maine to Texas and Florida. Louis enjoyed traveling for pleasure as well, visiting Alaska, The Grand Canyon and Europe.
Louis will be greatly missed by his surviving family, son Michael Martin of Westernville; son and daughter-in-law Timothy and Linda Martin of Broadalbin; daughter and son-in-law Mindy and Richard Robb of Vernon Center; son and daughter-in-law Patrick and Jane Martin of Rome; brother and sister-in-law Art and Carol Martin; sister and brother-in-law Aline and Donald Brennan; and brothers Donald and Jim Martin. Louis was especially fond of his four grandchildren, Kasey, Nash, Alex and Damion.
Louis was predeceased by his wife Rochelle in 2009, his son Christopher in 1985, and his sister Susie.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Pines nursing home for their compassion and care during Louis’ final years.
A celebration of Louis’ life will be held May 26 at 1 p.m. at the Steuben Methodist Church. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the Westernville Volunteer Fire Department or the Christopher Martin Scholarship Fund at Holland Patent Central School.
