LEE CENTER — Lyle W. Nickerson Sr., 80, of Weaver Road passed away at home on April 14, 2012. He was born in West Branch on November 14, 1931 a son of Albert I. and Hazel Vanderhoof Nickerson and grew up in Rome attending Rome Trade School. Lyle joined the US Air Force in 1952 and on February 6, 1953 in Weatherford, Texas he married Alice Ruth. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and the couple returned to their current home in Lee Center. Lyle began work at Boyson Motors Gas Station in Rome and then he went to work as a mechanic at Davidson’s Chevrolet in 1961. He then went to work for Revere where he retired in 1996. Lyle was a member of the Lee American Legion and enjoyed country music, hunting, fishing, and watching NASCAR and the Yankees.
Surviving are his wife Alice; two sons and daughter-in-law Douglas Nickerson, Lee Center; Lyle Jr. and Theresa Nickerson, Boonville; one daughter Deborah Benware, Vernon; four grandchildren Melissa and Todd Bartowiak, Dale Jr. and Kimberly Munn, Nicholas and Renee Munn, Troy Nickerson; nine great-grandchildren; close friends, nephew Tom and Lauri Nickerson, Rick Howard, Doris Scales, Madeline Lipe; special cousin, Ernie and Jeannine Fopps.
